Introducing Veesus Point Clouds for Revit

We’re really pleased to announce a new product from Veesus: the Point Clouds for Revit plug-in. In this blog, we’ll take you through what the new plug-in does, and what that means for you.

What Does Point Clouds for Revit Do?

Point Clouds for Revit enables you to open and work with VPC files (Veesus’ proprietary file format which enables users to work with point clouds of any size using standard computer hardware) natively in Autodesk Revit. Users can then work on their point clouds using the full range of editing tools provided in Revit, and effortlessly incorporate VPC point clouds into their BIM plans. Point Clouds for Rhino also includes some editing tools of its own, including clipping, viewpoints, and a relief shader to show you differences in heights in your scan data.

Point Clouds for Rhino is also fully compatible with Zappcha, our scanning app for LiDAR-enabled iOS devices, meaning that users can capture a scan using Zappcha, save it to the Zappcha Cloud, and then use that data in Revit via our plug-in. The integration also means that users can upload VPC files to the Zappcha Cloud and stream them to Revit from anywhere with an internet connection – including home, satellite offices, or construction sites.

Move Your Point Clouds Between Applications Effortlessly

One of the most exciting things about Point Clouds for Revit is that it finally means that AEC professionals already using Veesus plug-ins to work with point clouds can move their data from CAD tools – or our own point cloud editing tool, Arena4D – into Revit effortlessly. VPC files can be used via our plug-ins in both Rhino and SolidWorks, making design work using as-built data much easier; now, that same data can be incorporated into BIM plans with no need for extra workarounds or file conversions.

Providing this ability to take VPC files between different types of AEC software was a big part of our rationale for building the plug-in in the first place. Our aim is to help AEC projects run smoother, and be more effective, by leveraging the full potential of point cloud data.

Integrating the plug-in with Zappcha is also a major step towards making it easier to work with point cloud data in the modern world. Point cloud data has always been very difficult to share between teams or to take with you if you need to work on the move; an external hard drive was often the only way to move the data between sites. With the Zappcha Cloud and our plug-in for Revit, users can now stream their scan data to anywhere – be that the office, home, or a construction site – making work more efficient, and helping people work the way they want to, rather than the way they have to because of the data.
